Your outpatient appointment

Your first step will be to see your consultant for an outpatient consultation.

Your GP will be able to help you to choose your consultant. To search for a consultant, click here.

You can make an outpatient appointment by calling 0114 263 2109. Some consultants make their own appointments - if this is the case, we will give you their contact number. You will need a referral letter from your GP before seeing your consultant. You can either bring this with you to your appointment, or your GP can send it to us by post or fax prior to your consultation.

How quickly you see your consultant for an outpatient consultation will depend upon the availability of your consultant, but appointments are often available within a week or two. Outpatient appointments are available at a range of times, including evenings and Saturday mornings.

Once you have made your appointment, you will receive a letter of confirmation in the post, along with a map showing how to find us.

When attending your appointment, please report to reception. Complimentary refreshments and newspapers / magazines are available in the waiting area.

You will see your consultant in one of our consulting rooms. A friend or relative is welcome to accompany you should you wish. Chaperons are also freely available. You may find it useful to bring with you a list of any questions you may have.

If your consultant refers you for any tests or investigations, it may be possible to arrange these on the day of your appointment. If not, a further appointment will be made at a convenient time.
