Before seeking private treatment, you should check that your policy will cover you, by contacting your insurer. Obtaining a GP referral to a consultant Step 1: Make an appointment with your GP and ask him/her to write a letter of referral to a consultant with admitting rights to Claremont Hospital (your GP should have a Claremont Hospital directory of consultants, or alternatively your GP can write a 'Dear Doctor' letter which is not addressed to a specific consultant). Your GP can send the letter directly to Claremont Hospital's outpatient department, or you can arrange to collect the letter and take it with you to your appointment. Step 2: Call Claremont Hospital's outpatient department on 0114 263 2109 to make an appointment with a consultant at a time to suit you. If your GP has not sent a referral letter directly to the consultant, please bring this with you to your appointment. Your consultant will be able to answer any questions you have about the proposed surgery and will be able to arrange a suitable admission date. Claiming on your insurance policy If your GP refers you to a consultant, for an x-ray or scan, or for physiotherapy, you should contact your insurer to check your policy will cover you. If after seeing a consultant, you need to be admitted to hospital, you should again contact your insurer to obtain authorisation. Diagnostic imaging (x-ray) Your GP can refer you to Claremont Hospital for an x-ray or scan. Your GP can post or fax a referral letter or you can bring it with you to your appointment. To make an appointment, please call 0114 2632110. Appointments are usually available within a week of your GP referring you. Physiotherapy It is not necessary to obtain a GP referral to a physiotherapist. Claremont Hospital's physiotherapy department is staffed by experienced chartered physiotherapists. Contact us to make an appointment. Arranging to be admitted to hospital If, after seeing your consultant, you need to be admitted to hospital, your consultant will make the necessary arrangements. Upon admission, you will be asked to complete a form with your policy details. The hospital will then bill your insurance company directly. |
